ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding anglers who still have fish houses on frozen lakes in the northern part of the state to plan ahead for removal by the deadline of March 17th.
DNR Enforcement northeast region manager, Mike Martin, says cracks in the ice along shorelines and the forecasted above normal temperatures can make removal more difficult and ice conditions this time of year can vary widely.
Fish house owners are also responsible for proper disposal of any trash or other materials left on the ice.
The deadline for fish house removal in Minnesota border waters with Canada extends to March 31st.
In Wisconsin, ice fishing shacks need to be removed by March 16th north of Highway 64 and on Lake Superior.
