DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Events will be held Saturday at Park Hill Cemetery and the Depot in Duluth to honor the man recognized as the last veteran of the Civil War from either side.
Albert Woolson joined the Union Army, at the age of 14 in October of 1864 as a Drummer Boy and mustered out in September of 1865.
Albert and his family lived in several Minnesota cities and moved to Duluth around the turn of the century where he spent the rest of his long life.
Woolson passed away at the age of 106 in August of 1956.
Military honors from the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and American Legion Post 28 will be held at 11 a-m at the cemetery followed by a noon wreath laying at his statue and a reception at the Depot.
The event is sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society.
